The Origin of Crypsis Press
For decades, the publishing industry has been divided into two worlds. On one side stands Traditional Publishing: a system of gatekeepers where authors often surrender their creative rights, their timing, and the vast majority of their earnings for the "prestige" of a logo. On the other side is Solo Self-Publishing: a frontier of total freedom that can often feel like shouting into a void without the support of a professional brand or a community of peers.
Crypsis Press was founded in 2026 to dismantle that binary. We believe that authors of Speculative Fiction—the kind of stories that require scientific rigor and atmospheric depth—deserve the best of both worlds. They deserve the professional identity of a curated press and the financial autonomy of an independent creator.
Why "Crypsis"?
In nature, crypsis is the ability of an organism to avoid observation or detection. It is a survival strategy based on blending, masking, and mimicking.
We chose this name because the best stories often operate the same way. They mimic reality just enough to make you comfortable, only to reveal a terrifying biological truth or a technical anomaly hidden in plain sight.
We are drawn to the "Great Filter," the folk horror found in the roots of an old forest, and the mysteries that can only be solved through logic, not luck.
Speculative Fiction
We specialize in three pillars of intelligent genre fiction
Science Fiction
Near-future, biological tech, and stories exploring the "Great Filter." Give us the Antikythera of the future.
Horror
Psychological and Folk Horror. We prefer the "dread of the unknown" over simple gore. Think Annihilation meets The Wicker Man.
Mystery
Non-linear narratives and "locked-room" puzzles where the solution is hidden in biological or technical details.
