Charles R. Tanner

Charles R. Tanner was a pioneer of the pulp era of speculative fiction, best known for his world-building within the Tumithak saga. First published in the January 1932 issue of Amazing Stories, Tanner's work was famously cited by Isaac Asimov as a formative influence on his own legendary career. Unlike many of his contemporaries who focused on space travel, Tanner looked inward and downward, exploring the psychological and societal decay of a humanity forced into permanent subterranean exile. His vision of The Corridors remains a masterclass in atmospheric tension and sensory-driven narrative.
